There are a couple of key factors which have led to women finding
themselves stuck in what is described as the ‘sandwich generation’,
including the fact that we are having babies later. According to figures
from the ONS (Office For National Statistics), in 1970, the average age for
a first-time mother was 23.7 and, in 2018 it was 28.8. We are also living
longer… It’s not unusual now to read about somebody celebrating their
100th birthday while, not so long ago, this would be a rare occurrence.
